Diagnostic questionnaires
In my final practicum, I used an online questionnaire which I customised for each class to better understand student’s interests and prior knowledge. An example of the Year 8 BETS (Business, Economics and Technology) questionnaire is accessible using the link below. I used this diagnostic tool prior to teaching the content associated with Python programming.
The information from this questionnaire was valuable beyond diagnosing prior knowledge. It helped me to make the learning authentic and interesting for the students, equipping me with knowledge about student experiences over the school holidays, their favourite foods and hobbies as well as the methods of learning that work best for the students.
Getting to know the student
In my second practicum, I used an exit ticket to help me to get to better know the students and understand more about their learning preferences.

Menu of workpapers
Wouldn’t it be great if every student could have a workpaper that they could start on so regardless of which learning area we covered in a lesson, students would be able to “get on the bus” and make a start? In my second practicum, I learned how powerful diversified menus can be to encourage students to start work. To find out more, click on the link below
