Exploring surface area and volume in year 9 using tactile 3d models

In this lesson students were given a choice of two projects. After selecting either to recreate an engine cylinder (there were two different vehicles students could further choose from) or to carry out an Art project in which they filled a London Bus up with water, they received instructions which they followed to recreate models of their project. This project opened my eyes to the chaos of inquiry-based learning but upon reflection, there were many students participating in the activity and learning from their work.
